About Me

Headshot wedding snip

My name is Nicholas Cross, and I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. At LLNL, I have conducted research in multidisciplinary teams on lithium batteries, CO2 electrolyzers, and carbon capture from point sources and the air. I have mentored multiple undergraduate students and volunteered for multiple STEM outreach events that the lab has hosted. Additionally, I was honored to be an LLNL representative at the 2025  Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting on Chemistry. I completed my graduate degrees in chemical engineering at Penn State University advised by Bruce Logan, Matthew Rau, and Derek Hall. My research focused on characterization and development of thermally-regenerative flow batteries for utilization of low temperature heat. I was a leader of the PSU Chemical Engineering Graduate Student Association, a founding member of the the PSU Electrochemistry Society Student chapter, and advised the PSU AIChE ChemE Car team. I completed my bachelors degrees in chemical engineering and international studies at Oregon State University. During my time at Oregon State, I had two six month internships at Siltronic Corp. and Linde Specialty Gases, was a leader of the OSU Solar Vehicle Team, and defended an honors thesis on carbon degradation and kinetics in a vanadium (4/5) electrolyte. I am passionate about STEM education and renewable energy, please feel free to reach out to me on LinkedIn or email if you would like to chat!
